Humanity consists of interacting groups, usually organised as a structured hierarchy. In past experience, the alternative social form, anarchy, has always quickly reverted to a structured hierarchic form, so it is unlikely that the structured hierarchic form will disappear.

Structured hierarchies themselves slowly descend into short periods of anarchy followed by the emergence of a new structured hierarchy. Structured hierarchies have habitually consisted of a controlling minority who manipulate the majority and are opposed by one or more rival minorities seeking control for themselves.

If there is ever to be a form of structured hierarchy which takes people out of the clutches of determined minority groups it is important to understand how minorities manipulate majorities to gain power. Two factors are described here:

Control Mechanisms which make individuals and groups susceptible to control.

Control Usage are ways minorities use these mechanisms to gain and retain power.

I also discuss possible ways of Dealing With Control

You might well know of other factors or other ways of exploiting them or better ways of dealing with them but in my experience what I describe is relevant and is ignored by most people.

You may observe that I have no more qualification than anyone else to pronounce on these matters. That is why I have included on every page of this site the same header banner, confirming my own fallibility and suggesting that you should recognise yours.

My personal expertise is in the area of computer systems and I have built a Java tool to help me perform experiments in specification, simulation and trials support (acceptance, bench testing, etc.). Here I provide an overview of the capabilities of that tool, called ProSpecs.
